Records consist of business correspondence, bonds, receipts, cashier draft stubs, blank drafts, powers of attorney and other legal documents, accounts for checks paid (1864-1865), and two slave mortgages (1854, 1855) of James Macbeth, a merchant of Charleston (S.C.). Correspondence includes letters (1854-1855) to the bank from merchant James Macbeth concerning the mortgage of fourteen slaves (names listed in one letter) and other financial matters; and correspondence (1842) among E.A. Nisbet (an attorney of Macon, Ga.), M.C. Mordecai, agent and attorney for the Southwestern Railroad Bank, and James Rose, president of the Southwestern Railroad Bank, concerning mortgage foreclosures and real estate, stock, and bond transfers and transactions between the Southwestern Railroad Bank and the Ocmulgee Bank in Macon, Ga.
